Houston:

We have arrived back in Manchester!

Houston: Last leg

Here we sit next to our luggage at Chicago Midway for our last leg home. We have learned from those at home that it is actually snowing. Those of us with shorts and flip flops are going to have a rude awakening in a couple of hours. Students were also happy to hear that they were nominated for top puppies for their hard work this week. We feel that they definitely deserve it!

Bye Nashville

Sad to be leaving :(

Nashville

On our way to Nashville for our fun day!

Houston: Just the girls!

Houston: Just the guys!

Houston: Ehausted is an understatement

Here we are the Sheil mobile crew waiting for the shuttle van to the airport. 3:30am came very quickly. We had such a great time. Sssssooooo many memories were made. Loveland and Sheil couldn't have asked for a better group! GO BULLDOGS! (mote pictures to come!)

Houston: group picture time!

Here we are after we stuffed our faces with some Tex Mex.

Houston: More good work

Great team work. There was not a whole lot of work today. Some people finished working on the roof, some finished trim work while others did random jobs. Students enjoyed working and talking with the Habitat workers. We are looking forward to our fun day tomorrow.

Houston: There is a first for everything

So apparently folks thought Loveland was crazy that they should cut up grapes for fruit salad. Sure looks delicious. We have to wait for tomorrow however as it will be part of our big breakfast.

In other news, Sheil thought he was literally in a Glee episode as everyone in the Sheil mobile was singing to don't stop believing, and Bohemian Rhapsody amongst other songs. Mr. Shoester would have been proud and would feel as though they are ready for regionals.

Houston: Family time

Don't we look like a GREAT family with the houston habitat work staff

Houston: Taking charge

Here is proof that Jordan was working hard at the jobsite!

Houston: Proud to be a BULLDOG

It was great to see that bulldog proud was expressed today at the job site after lunch.

Houston: View from the roof

Here is a view of the neighborhood that we are working in. This picture was taken from the roof of the house where shingles were added. If you look to the far left of the picture you can see a crew working on the other house

Houston: Last work day

At the job site for our last day of work!

Houston: Ice Princesses

Here is Houston's finest on the ice rink in the Galleria mall. What great form they had. Do you think they should go pro!

Houston: Great action shot

Got to love team work! (Loveland taking charge with the nail gun!)

Houston: Day Two events

So day two comes to a close. Students are getting ready for bed. Today we actually went to one of the job sites. There we participated in several jobs such as roofing, nailing in hurricane strips, and siding. After work, we went to sonic for a refreshing snack. Who knew that it was happy hour from 2 to 4. Nothing like having a .91 cent slushy. Tacos was for dinner followed by getting back into the van to the big mall. Several also learned a new card game called popcorn. Let's just say it is intense!

Houston: Math is everywhere

Yesterday Loveland and Sheil were thrilled to see the place where the great Texas Instrument Graphing calculators are made. Also Sheil was happy to see the educational value to going shopping.

Houston: Ice Rink?

So who knew that Houston would have an ice rink at its large mall called the Galleria?

Nashville

Enjoying an after work treat at Sonic! It has been a long MUDDY day . . . Much deserved free time :)

Houston: Day #2 dinner

Here is Katie talking charge of the ground beef for taco night. Record timing was made due to the fact that 10 pounds of beef was cooked in 45 minutes. Taco were delicious.

Houston: A new Sonic experience

We decided to stop by sonic and were surprised to see that there was an eat in section where you call in the order.

Houston: update so far

So it is time to share all that we did. Yesterday we went to the Houston Habitat Warehouse to put together back walls to sheds as each house receives one. When we finished work for the day we to a local wall art where each group divided up or shopping needs. Dinner was great. Lowland and Sheil thought it would be a great idea to do a mystery drive. Little did they know, there was no access to the lake and plan B did not work either. We drove 20 mins to a park and realized that the park was just a baseball field in a not so good part of town. Sundaes we one the docket for dessert at the home followed by hanging out playing cops and robbers. Who knew that people had issues blinking!

Houston: Yikes...

We have a couple brave 18 year olds that are helping finishing the roof. Others are on the ground observing!

Houston: Nailing time

Today we are at the actual job site. This crew is actually putting in hurricane strips to as it is a requirement for all homes in Texas. The weather is a bit overcast in the high 80's. More to share later

Houston takes a needed break

Lunch was much needed from the hard work. We found a cool area with a breeze. We have built 12 walls and have 8 more to go. We look forward to seeing our house in light since we arrived at midnight and left at 6:30am.

Houston: We earned our wings

Our last leg of the trip proved to be fun! We all participated in a puzzle activity that the flight attendant gave us. The best part was that everyone got wings and an activity book. It is 8:30 Houston time....now time to get the vans, go shopping, and then to the house!

Keeping entertained while traveling

Leave it to the boys to find ways to stay entertained. Nick is going to town with his artistic abilities at a kids store in the Nashville airport while waiting for a connecting flight to Houston. Jordan was also seen taking a picture with a random traveler with the word poop on his shirt.

Nashville

Getting ready to start our journey to Nashville!!!

Helping others

Each year, at this time, the chaperones of the HFH trips look forward to spending time with students outside of the classroom. It is a chance to get to know the students as well as an opportunity to help those that are in need. New bounds will be formed, new areas will be explored, new skills will be developed, and more importantly, new memories will be made! You can't ask for anything more! Here is to two great intersession trips!

Time to pack

Oh the places we go!

Testing out the ability to text to the blog

The Excitement is Building!

We are all very excited to be leaving in two days.  It will be great to help those that are less fortunate, learning something new when it comes to home building, making new friends, stepping outside our comfortable limits, as well as enjoying the nice weather (high 80's here we come!)
